Design

Living wall design, from the first look to drawings.

We start with the wall, not a catalogue of plants. For homes, workplaces and commercial buildings across London and the Home Counties, we look at the structure, the water, the light and how the wall will be reached. You leave with a planting scheme, a watering plan and drawings the build can follow.

Based in London. Working across the capital and the Home Counties.

01 — What design includes

Six things, issued before anything is ordered.

Every design starts with a visit and ends with a scheme, a way to water the wall, and a price. Nothing is left for the installer to guess.

01

A first look at the wall

We measure the wall, check the light, the access and the water, and say early if the idea is straightforward or needs a different approach.

02

How it meets the building

Weight, fixings and the line where the wall meets stone, render or glazing, set out so the rest of the project is not asked to change late.

03

Water and drainage

Where the supply comes from, how the wall is zoned, and where the water goes once it has passed through the planting.

04

Planting for the light it gets

Species chosen for that aspect and for how close people stand to the wall, with enough structure to hold cover through winter.

05

Drawings you can share

A planting scheme and setting-out your architect, designer or contractor can price and build from.

06

A clear budget

One quote, split so you can see design, installation and the care that follows, before plants are ordered.

02 — How it works

Four stages, from enquiry to issued drawings.

01

Enquiry

Send a photograph, a drawing or a rough size. We come back with a first view of access, light, water and structure.

02

Visit

A measured look at the wall, the fixings, the water and how we will reach it later for maintenance.

03

Design

System, planting and irrigation, drawn up with a written note of how the wall is to be built.

04

Quote

A fixed figure and a programme, set against the rest of the work on site.

03 — Key facts

Design facts.

What we work to on a design. The price comes from the wall in front of us, not from a rate on this page.

04 — Designing with your architect

Information in the form the project needs.

We work as a specialist alongside the architect, interior designer or contractor, not as the seller of a single product. Drawings, loadings and the water demand arrive in a form the rest of the package can use.

Where the wall sits on a building already underway, we detail to what is there rather than asking for it to change. The two things that are expensive to fix late are the fixing zone and the drainage route.

Design can be issued on its own, for another installer to price, or carried through to installation and maintenance by our own team.

05 — Chosen by the wall

The system follows the wall.

We do not start from a product. The space, the planting and how the wall will be looked after decide the system.

A feature wall at home

Courtyards, lightwells and garden walls, where the planting is seen up close and the irrigation has to be quiet and reliable.

A larger installation

Offices, entrances and buildings, where access, weight and a maintenance route matter as much as the first impression.

06 — Relevant projects

Designed, then built.

“The scheme was clear from the start, and the finished wall is exactly the one we talked through. It has changed the courtyard completely.”
